Join the ALLIANCE to explore how human rights can offer the basis for high quality health and social care that supports people not just to stay well, but to enjoy independent living and active citizenship.

This conference comes at a time when health and social care is in sharp focus with implementation of self-directed support, upcoming integration legislation, the drive for person-centred health and care and a programme of change driven by the Christie agenda. At the same time the Scottish Human Rights Commission is developing a Human Rights Framework for Scotland.

The crucial challenge is not just to embed human rights at the heart of policy, but to ensure this is reflected in the real lived experience of people. For many who are disabled, older or living with long term conditions health and social care – whether provided by the statutory, third, private or informal sector – plays a significant role in enabling access to equality and independent living. This is all the more so in the context of UK Welfare Reforms.

Full agenda details are available in the conference pack.

Confirmed speakers include:

Minister for Public Health, Michael Matheson

Event chair, broadcaster Sally Magnusson

Professor Alan Miller, Scottish Human Rights Commission

Sarah Rochira, Older People’s Commissioner Wales

Alistair Pringle, Equality and Human Rights Commission
